Classes are ending but thanks to COVID-19, MCCC sports are still going. With many cancellations, reschedulings, and missing tournaments things are stretching on so the teams can try to complete their season.

Cancellations have been one of the biggest issues this spring season, and one of the big safety measures. Softball had 8 cancellations and more than half of the lacrosse team’s games were cancelled.

Coach Carella of the baseball team says “We started with a 55 game schedule and will end playing at a total of 34.”

Overall, only a few of the cancelled games got rescheduled. The lacrosse team has finished its season because they were only able to reschedule two games from those that were cancelled.

Coach Siris says “it was just tough to have any momentum when there was so much time between games.”

However, this doesn’t mean the Viking athletes are underperforming.

The softball team reports 21 wins to 6 losses with their last win going 9-0 against Harford Community College.

The lacrosse team has gone 4-2 with their last win showing a score of 18-10 against Sussex County College.

The baseball team is 17-12 and women’s soccer is so far 3 and 1 with their last game a 1-2 loss against Brookdale Community College.

There have been other high notes. The lacrosse team reports through their social media that players Sam Hensler, Brandon Guios and Peter Pinto have been selected for the All Region XIX Team for 2021, with Jake Filor also receiving co-player of the year, Hunter Locke being Defensive player of the year, and Coach Rob Siris being Coach of the Year.

The coaches of all the teams say they hope for a normal fall season as vaccinations and re-openings are underway throughout the state.
