Rainy weather moves Mercer’s Club Day festivities indoors

This year, Mercer’s Student Life and Leadership held their annual Club Day Fall Festival on Tuesday, September 26. Club Day offers students the opportunity to learn about the clubs offered at MCCC while providing food trucks, inflatables, and games for students to enjoy.

Club Day is normally held outside on the Quad but due to the continuous rain the event was moved indoors into Mercer’s gymnasium. The new location resulted in the festival being downsized, making it a little harder to be noticed by students.

Jennifer Nicolini, program advisor of the Student Life and Leadership staff said that the area change was “proposed the day before.”

However, even with the rain Nicolini says, “There is always a backup plan under these circumstances.”

But despite the weather and change in location, the Student Life staff were able to maximize the space available. Food trucks had lines of students and many took interest in the clubs that were displayed at the event.

When observing the data, Nicolini says, “For Fall Festival Club Day, approximately 600 students came to the event.”

Regardless of the changes, Club Day had a good student turnout and brought fun activities for the participants to enjoy.

Presley Gordon, a third year student majoring in Criminal Justice and part of the Criminal Justice Club says, “It is a lively event.”

But Gordon said he was still unhappy about the weather. Gordon continued, “this should’ve been moved to another date that wasn’t raining so I don’t have to stand outside in the rain for food.”

Agreeing with Gordon, Andrew Achaibar, a third year Computer Science major said he disliked the weather but enjoyed the festival nonetheless.

When asked if the event impacted him, Achaibar says, “No, but it fills my stomach up.”

Overall, Club day was a success bringing in a large number of students and offering information about all of the clubs that MCCC has to offer.

Nicolini says, “ There were many sign ups for the clubs and students really loved the DJ.” She continued, “We are looking forward to seeing how the next club day will turn out.”

After Club Day, Student Life and Leadership are getting into the spooky spirit, and preparing for their SGA Halloween Party on Thursday, October 26.
