Somerville, New Jersey holds its first Native American Heritage Month celebration – Photo Essay

The Downtown Somerville Alliance hosted its first Native American Heritage Celebration that showcased tribal dances, music, and vendors selling traditional crafts on Saturday, November 5.

Amanda Acevedo from the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania makes traditional crafts including bead and leather work. 

She said of the event, “I’m appreciative of being invited to get out there and spread the culture and spread some information to the public so that more people can get involved”

November is Native American Heritage Month, a title given in 1990 when President George W. Bush passed a joint resolution.
