The Mercer County Community College Jazz Band, directed by Professor Scott Hornick, performed on November 16, at the Princeton MarketFair mall. This was the band’s first public performance since 2019. Professor Hornick told The VOICE, “It was so much fun to be back out and having the students play.”

The jazz band performed a variety of holiday classics and jazz standards while busy shoppers took a moment to stop and enjoy the festive songs.

The Princeton MarketFair mall holiday performance featured Very Thompson and Matt Gargiullo on vibraphone, Jalen Johnson on trumpet, Alina Mastrangeli on clarinet, Kayla Hawkins on flute, Harrison Silverman on ukulele and vocals, Kyrie Miller and Eddie Berkeyheiser on guitar, CiCi Corriveau on keyboard and vocals, David Meriney on drums, Maho Kurisu on vocals and keyboard, Camryn LeCain on vocals and sound, Ave Corbitt and Isabel Pluchino on vocals.

Professor Hornick has been running the MCCC Jazz Band for seven years and told The VOICE, he is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the students. He stated, “Watching their eyes light up as their confidence grows is always my favorite part.” He especially loves seeing and hearing their progress throughout the semester.

The jazz band is open to all MCCC students. You don’t need to be a music major to participate. For more information about Mercer’s music department visit this link.
